SUSTAINABILITY & URBAN PLANNING SCHOOL TRIPS TO SINGAPORE

Singapore a living ecosystem and sustainable city, and one of the cleanest and greenest cities in the world. Learn about the challenges and innovate solutions Singapore has developed in in response to rapid population growth, urbanization, resource constraints, and climate change. As a densely populated island nation of nearly six million people, Singapore has become a leader in urban design and resource management.

Sustainability & Urban Planning Tour Program

Day 1: Arrival Singapore
Upon arrival in Singapore, our English speaking guide will be there to welcome and assist the group with coach transfer and check-in at the hotel. Welcome dinner at the hotel.

Day 2: Edible Garden City / HDB Heartlands Town / Singapore Mobility Gallery
This morning we proceed to the urban farming community Edible Garden City, which champions the sustainable living movement and encourages everyone else to do so. Variety of growing methods in the 8000 sqm facility demonstrates the viability of productive farms in offices, malls, and community centres, making safe, fresh, nutritious produce accessible to all Singaporians. By closing the gap between food and people, we aim to reconnect city dwellers with nature. Students will participate in a guided tour around Citizen Farm which features the unique farming stations along with a talk that will dive into solutions for food security, food waste and social issues like ageing population, inequality environmental impact through agriculture.

Engage in hands on urban farming activities by learning how to grow herbs, vegetables, and microgreens using sustainable techniques like vertical farming and composting. They’ll explore how underutilized urban spaces – like rooftops and former prison grounds – can be transformed into productive ecosystems that support food resilience. Through guided workshops, students gain insight into Singapore’s “Grow Your Own Food” movement and the role of community-centric agriculture in shaping a greener future.

After we will be visiting a HDB Heartlands Town in Singapore. On this unique walking Public Housing Tour – Into the HDB Heartlands in Singapore, students will leave behind the glitzy centre of Singapore and explore the housing estates where majority of Singaporeans live. On this tour, you’ll learn all about these developments and the lives of the people who call them home. See how HDB heartlanders eat, shop, travel, play and relax in this very typical HDB town centre.

We then proceed to the Housing & Development Board (HDB) Gallery which showcases HDB’s meticulously planned, innovated and built public housing for the nation and its affordable housing initiatives. Students can walk through distinctively themed spaces to discover how our towns are planned and designed, and get up close and personal with the cutting-edge urban innovations and sustainability solutions that have helped improve the living environment for Singapore residents.

Our final visit is to the Singapore Mobility Gallery which features seven exhibition zones that showcase various facets of Singapore’s comprehensive land transport system. The Gallery gives a behind-the-scenes look at how the Land Transport Authority plans, designs and builds Singapore’s transport system while balancing efficiency, liveability and inclusivity as it leverages technology for smarter urban mobility. The Gallery makes use of technology to create a rich and immersive learning experience for students. We then proceed back to the hotel.

Day 3 : Singapore City Gallery/ Marina Barrage / Gardens by the Bay
This morning our first visit is to the Singapore City Gallery situated at the Urban Redevelopment Authority. Uncover the story behind Singapore’s remarkable transformation into one of the most liveable cities in Asia. Discover how, through strategic long-term planning, we guide Singapore’s physical development in a sustainable manner to achieve a quality living environment for its citizens.

Here, students will dive into how this compact nation masterfully balances innovation with environmental stewardship. Through interactive sessions, they’ll explore smart city strategies, urban greening, and climate resilience – learning how Singapore transforms limited land into thriving, sustainable spaces. From analyzing real-world case studies like Punggol to role-playing urban planners, students gain first hand insight into the future of sustainable urban living.

We then proceed to the Marina Barrage via the Singapore Mass Rail Transit. Today, more than 140 stations across six MRT lines span the island. This 200km system has over three million daily ridership and is the island country’s principal mode of transport.

The Marina Barrage. Built across the mouth of the marina channel, the Marina Barrage creates Singapore’s 15th reservoir and the first in the heart of the city. With a catchment area of 10,000hectares, the Marina catchment is the island’s largest and most urbanised catchment. Students will explore Singapore’s innovative approach to water management and sustainability through a guided tour of its iconic green roof and solar panel installations. They’ll engage with interactive exhibits at the Sustainable Singapore Gallery, learning how climate action, water conservation, and urban planning intersect in this eco-engineered space. The experience offers a hands-on look at how a city can thrive while prioritizing environmental resilience and clean energy solutions.

Our final visit is to Gardens by the Bay Climate Conservatories which provides student’s with an opportunity to experience the development of modern Singapore. Housing more than 250,000 Rare Plants and 18 Supertrees, the park is built to raise the quality of life of Singaporeans by enhancing greenery and flora in the city. Set on 54 hectares the complex consists of two climate conservatories. Appreciate the unique technologies for long term conservation and sustainability. Students will explore two stunning biomes – the Flower Dome and the Cloud Forest – each showcasing unique global ecosystems. They’ll witness sustainable architecture in action while learning about climate adaptation, biodiversity, and conservation. From towering indoor waterfalls to rare plant species, this immersive experience brings environmental science vividly to life.

Students will then enjoy the Garden Rhapsody ‘Supertree Light and Sound Show. Students will experience a dazzling fusion of nature, technology, and music beneath the towering Supertrees of Gardens by the Bay. As hundreds of LED lights dance in sync with curated soundtracks- from classical scores to pop anthems – the show transforms the grove into a surreal, immersive spectacle. It’s a moment of reflection and wonder, offering students a chance to unwind while appreciating how art and sustainability can harmonize in a world-class urban garden. We then proceed back to the hotel.

Day 4: One-North / Marina Bay Sustainability Tour / Skypark Observation Deck / Chinatown Markets
This morning we will be visiting One-North, the Silicon Valley of Singapore. From a backwater in the past, to a bustling metropolis today, Singapore has indeed transformed. Despite the success we enjoy now, we continue to strive for the next bound of what is to come, and becoming a SMART Nation is the next phase of transformation for Singapore. One-North was designed with this in mind. Having a precinct that is dedicated to innovation is important for local start-ups to experiment, research and grow. Learn more about this “Silicon Valley of Singapore” and explore this innovative district as we discover a new ecosystem, introduce various local start-ups, and tell the stories of how they brought their ideas to life.

After we proceed to Marina Bay for our sustainability walking tour. From vertical greens that reach up to the sky, to underground spaces hundreds of metres deep, Singapore had to be creative in using our limited land space. With brilliant foresight, our city planners have designed Marina Bay to be the model for sustainable and liveable cities around the world. More than just giving Singapore a brand-new stunning city skyline, Marina Bay has been designed over 40 years with sustainability in mind, adopting environmentally friendly strategies and technologies in its development.

Our next visit is to the Skypark Observation Deck atop Marina Bay Sands, students will take in breathtaking 360-degree views of Singapore’s skyline, from Gardens by the Bay to the bustling harbor and beyond. They’ll learn about the city’s architectural evolution and urban planning.This elevated experience offers a moment of reflection and inspiration, connecting students to Singapore’s vision of innovation, sustainability, and global connectivity. We then proceed for our farewell dinner before proceeding back to the hotel.

After our farewell dinner, we visit the vibrant and bustling marketplace China Town Night Markets, located on smith street in the heart of Chinatown. We then proceed back to the hotel.

Day 5: Jewel Changi / Departure
We check-out of the hotel and transfer to Changi International Airport. The group will head on a tour of Jewel Changi Airport first. Your guide will introduce you to the fascinating sights of the airport, including the Crystal Clouds, HSBC Rain Vortex and Shiseido Forest Valley along with a visit to the Changi Experience Studio.
