CULINARY SCHOOL TRIPS TO SINGAPORE
Singapore’s cosmopolitan blend of cultural influences is reflected in its ethnically diverse cuisine and the choice is vast; ranging from cheap and cheerful food sold at hawker stalls; to high-end cuisine served atop the best five-star skyscraper hotels. Singapore can justifiably claim to be Asia’s food capital where East meets West in a dizzying mélange of flavors.
Singapore Culinary Tour Program
Day 1: Arrival Singapore
Upon arrival in Singapore, our English speaking guide will be there to welcome and assist the group with the transfer and check-in at the hotel. Welcome dinner at the hotel.
Day 2: Singapore Discovery Culture Tour
Today we enjoy a Singapore Discovery Culture Tour focusing on Singapore great cultural diversity, a unique blend of the Malay, Indian, and Chinese cultures.
Our first stop is Kampong Glam, traditionally known as Singapore’s Muslim Quarter. Once the seat of Malay royalty, this area blends Islamic heritage with contemporary street culture. We’ll visit the iconic Sultan Mosque, admire the colourful murals along Haji Lane, and stroll down Arab Street, famous for its fabric stores and Middle Eastern eateries along with a visit to the Malay Heritage centre.
Next, we journey to Little India, a district known for its colours, strong cultural identity, and historic landmarks. With roots dating back to the 19th century when Indian migrant workers settled here, the area remains a key cultural hub for Singapore’s Indian community. We explore its lively streets lined with spice shops, flower garland stalls, temples, and traditional eateries.
Our final visit, we explore the historic district of Chinatown, an area rich in cultural heritage and tradition. Developed in the early 19th century by Chinese immigrants, Chinatown is home to preserved shop houses, bustling markets, and religious landmarks. During our walking tour, we learn about Buddhist beliefs and the influence of Chinese traditions in Singaporean society with visits to the Buddha Relic Temple.
Day 3: Edible Garden City / Innovation in FoodTech and AgTech / Bumboat Rivercruise / Lau Pa Sat Centre
This morning we proceed to the urban farming community Edible Garden City, which champions the sustainable living movement and encourages everyone else to do so. Variety of growing methods in the 8000 sqm facility demonstrates the viability of productive farms in offices, malls, and community centres, making safe, fresh, nutritious produce accessible to all Singaporians. By closing the gap between food and people, we aim to reconnect city dwellers with nature. Students will participate in a guided tour around Citizen Farm which features the unique farming stations along with a talk that will dive into solutions for food security, food waste and social issues like ageing population, inequality environmental impact through agriculture.
We then proceed for a Innovation in FoodTech and AgTech tour. Agriculture technology is now more important than ever in agriculture. It is a growing industry that employs modern technologies to increase production yield, improve food quality, and promote sustainability in the agri-food value chain.
Find out how Singapore is responding to the urgent need to overcome global resource constraints, meet the demands of an expanding population, and adapt to changing consumer preferences, all while strengthening Singapore’s food resilience and supporting our “30 by 30” goal of producing 30% of our nation’s nutritional needs locally by 2030.
Our final visit is to Lau Pa Sat Centre. Experience true hawker culture housed within Singapore’s most iconic hawker market – Lau Pa Sat. Find all of Singapore’s local hawker favourites under one roof, alongside 6 Michelin-mentioned brands and the very best of Singapore and International dishes from over 80 stalls. Return back to the hotel.
Day 4 : Local Market & Cooking Experience / Peranakan Tour
This morning enjoy a visit to a cooking school for a special Cooking Experience. Head first to a local neighbourhood market and learn from the chef about local ingredients they will be using in the cooking class. Return to the cooking kitchen studio to begin to cook your chosen Singaporean menu dishes such as Chicken Rice,Laksa and Char Keow Teow with guidance from the chef.
We then spend a afternoon exploring Peranakan (Straits Chinese) culture in Joo Chiat and Katong while strolling past heritage shophouses, quaint stores and eateries. Witness a exploration of these unique neighbourhoods allows for a visible display of the melting pot of cultures beyond just Peranakan and Eurasian. Bask in the incredibly stylish architecture, furnishings, and the intricately painted ceramic tiles of yesteryear. During the tour, you will visit a private Peranakan Museum, a Eurasian Heritage gallery and you will also sample some Nyonya delicacies and participate in a Popiah making session. Dinner will be a local Peranakan restaurant.
Our final activity, we will take you on a Bumboat River Cruise along the Singapore River. The Singapore River is like a witness to its history. On both sides of the river, you will see the colonial buildings, traditional Chinese shops, modern skyscrapers, each of them would tell you an exciting story of Singapore. We then proceed for our Farwell Dinner.
Day 5: Jewel Changi / Departure
We check-out of the hotel and transfer to Changi International Airport. The group will head on a tour of Jewel Changi Airport first. Your guide will introduce you to the fascinating sights of the airport, including the Crystal Clouds, HSBC Rain Vortex and Shiseido Forest Valley.
